Raven medicine is the medicine of magic. According to David Carson and Jamie Sams, authors of Medicine Cards, "Raven magic is a powerful medicine that can give you the courage to enter the darkness of the void, which is the home of all that is not yet in form. The void is called the Great Mystery. Great Mystery existed before all other things came into being. Great Spirit lives inside the void and emerged from the Great Mystery. Raven is the messenger of the void."
The color of Raven is part of Raven medicine. Raven wings are a beautiful iridescent blue-black color that to many Indigenous teachings represents the void. Deepak Chopra has written about the void, explaining it as the 'gap between breaths' or 'the field of pure potentiality.'
In the Osho Zen card deck, the No-Thingness card is represented by that black, or blue-black void from which all form is eventually birthed. It's like the womb of life ~ first there is the formless, then a thought creates a spark, and when conditions are right, that spark manifests into a form ~ whether as a baby, work of art, a new invention, or any other form of manifestation.
Raven magic, therefore, is akin to being The Magician who can use the power of the imagination to manifest thought into form.
“There is wisdom in a raven’s head.” – Gaelic Proverb
"Among the Irish Celts, the raven was associated with the Triple Goddess, the Morrigan, who took the shape of a raven over battlefields while acting as “Chooser of the Slain” and the protector of warriors."
“To have a raven’s knowledge” is an Irish proverb meaning to have a seer’s supernatural powers. The raven is considered to be one of the oldest and wisest of all animals."
I pulled a card prior to going to do an energy healing for a woman at her metaphysical store, to see if I would be a good fit for doing energy healing from her store one day per week. I asked which animal would best help me with my healing work.
I separately also asked to pick a card for the animal medicine that was most appropriate for her as well.
The 'animal' that I pulled that was here to assist me in doing my healing service was Raven medicine.
In the Spiritsong Tarot, by Paulina Cassidy, Raven is the major arcana #1, The Magician.
According to Cassidy, "...Raven is your mentor in making the best use of your skills. She will help you shed fears so that you can unleash your full potential and personal power. Transforming ideas into reality, Raven knows that possibilities begin from nothing. Her spirit holds the fires of creativity that turn obstacles into productive expression."
Raven Medicine reminds us that we (can) be the 'ruler of our reality.'
When your intentions are Divinely Aligned with your True Self and Divine Purpose, magic happens. Manifestation is swift. We just need to meet the Universe half way. The more that our desires are in the best good for our self, and all, the greater Raven medicine can assist in harnessing the power of the Great Mystery to manifest, as if by magic.
If you are 'feeling in the dark' about how to heal a physical symptom, or current situation, allow Raven medicine to assist you in shedding light on the darkness.
Raven medicine can also help you send a message to Great Spirit, loved ones who have passed, or even your ancestors. In a manner similar to the use of angels, or even smoke to send up prayers, call upon Raven medicine to send your requests to Great Spirit, and trust they are being heard.
Contrarily, if you have been using your powers of magic to do harm, or practice dark sorcery, Raven may be encircling you to bring back a taste of your own medicine!
Likewise, Raven may be attempting to create a crack in your consciousness if your inner skeptic and 'intellect' are barring you from believing in magic!
